"Enormous" problems if Singaporeans don't procreate: Lee Kuan Yew

This is a definitely a big problem. But the problem lies with not just Singaporeans. To create birth rates, you need to have people getting married first.

Firstly, the lifestyle in Singapore. It's too fast paced. Most Singaporeans are working so hard such that they are too tired to socialize during their weekends. If Singapore wants to have a high productivity nation and at the same time wants Singaporeans to find the right counterpart, aren't they asking too much? Not only that. With so much workload on their hands, Singaporeans can hardly find time to take care of their kids. If you're busy creating income for yourself and your family, would you have even have time follow the Singapore notion?

Without income = Work hard = No time = How to have children?!?!??!

Secondly, the culture. Like most Asians, we're brought up in a society that most people actually do not socialize much with one and other. That is of cause pointing towards our education system. We're a examination nation. We're trained to study and pass exams. We're not trained to socialize. Look around you. How many of your friends prefer sticking to their clique when they go out. Being in cliques is a form of anti-social act. In this case, the chances of finding the 'Right' one decreased tremendously.

Thirdly, education system. This actually overlap slightly with the second point. As i mention earlier. Singapore is a examination nation. Kids are trained to pass exams. Kids are forced to have tuition every day to score As. How can these kids be able to get to know other kids? This will develop a inability to socialize. Even in our secondary school, tertiary education. Do you really see people mingling around? Something is very wrong with the education system.

Besides giving 'incentive' to encourage birth rates, the country leaders have to realise that there's more than it meets the eye. Tackle the fundamental problem first and the secondary problem(birth rates) will solve themselves.
